About the appeal
Supporting Darlington’s elderly community
Christmas is a special time for families but for those with no family or friends around to visit or spend time with it can be really difficult and depressing time. Many elderly people in our community already suffer from isolation and loneliness, but the festive season can be even more challenging.
Darlington Town Mission support our elderly “Friends” (clients) and help them to really look forward to Christmas with a calendar of outings where they have a chance to socialise and share in some festive fun with others. For many of our “Friends” it is the highlight of their year.
Not all “Friends” are able to leave their own homes or care homes for a variety of reasons and therefore they are unable to enjoy a social event. We can all help to give them a gift of festive cheer.
Join us in our “Happy Hampers” project. We’d like to deliver a Christmas hamper filled with local festive fayre. Receiving a hamper would bring great joy, this may be the only gift that they receive this Christmas. Our two Missioners supported by a team of volunteers will deliver the gifts of happiness across Darlington to those living independently in their own homes and to those living in care homes.
