Healthwatch Darlington
Healthwatch Darlington is the independent champion for people using local health and social care services in the Darlington borough. We listen to what people like about services and what could be improved. We share their views with those with the power to make change happen. People can also speak to us to find information about health and social care services available locally.
Our sole purpose is to help make care better for people.
Darlington Town Mission are affiliated to Healthwatch and receive regular updates via email. Missioner also attends three monthly Healthwatch Darlington Organisations together meetings where we have speakers and share news from our organisations around the table . Very useful in sharing and networking .
Alzheimer's Darlington
The Alzheimer’s Society is the UK’s leading support and research charity for people with dementia, their families and carers. We run quality services, fund research, advise professionals and campaign for improved health and social care and promote greater public understanding and awareness of dementia.
The Alzheimer’s Society provides a free Dementia Advisory Service and Dementia Support Service in the Borough of Darlington for people with any form of dementia, their families and carers. It is estimated that around 1368 people in the Borough of Darlington have dementia and only 58% of those have a diagnosis.
Anyone can access our service by contacting us directly or through health professionals. You can contact us as the carer, relative, concerned neighbour or person with dementia for advice and support.
Darlington Town Mission regularly works with Kathryn Hardwick Dementia advisor and receives referrals for our service from her, she knows my background as a CPN/memory nurse so we work well collaboratively together.
We are included in The Dementia Services for Darlington directory which provides a list of services that can offer information,advice and support to help people living with Dementia and those supporting people with Dementia .
Many of us are Dementia friends after completing training with Kathryn and are helping to work towards a Dementia friendly Community.
Churches Together
Churches Together in Darlington is the Umbrella Christian Churches organisation in the Borough of Darlington.
It’s aim is to encourage friendship between Churches and Christian organisations such as Darlington Town Mission and share service through the local churches together.
Darlington Town Mission are very much involved in this wonderful group and missioner attends three monthly forum meetings at Kings Church and also helps out with any community events we are engaging in , ie Darlington Town Mission share a publicity stall at the community carnival and give out goodie bags there and in the town centre on Good Friday.
It’s good to share and support one another in all the work we are all doing in Darlington to reach out to those who need us.
